Domain name transactions with the .tr extension started to be carried out through registration operators after the closure process of Nic.TR as of March 23, 2020. During this process, METUnic, established by ODTÜ Development Foundation as a registration operator, started its activities in December 2019 to deliver the ODTÜ experience and knowledge to you, our valuable users, and to provide quality services. As METUnic, we will continue to provide service-oriented service in TRABİS processes and applications with the user satisfaction-focused approach we have shown during the closure process of Nic.TR. Our development and improvement efforts continue to ensure a professional and smooth transition for both you, our users, and us registration organizations. We kindly ask you to review the following explanations in order to have the correct and sufficient information. After your review, you can reach us through our support channels to find answers to any questions you may have and visit our website.
TRABİS, the abbreviation for the .tr Network Information System, is a system that covers the management and operation processes of the domain name system and database with the ".tr" extension. The system ensures the secure and continuous operation of guidance (whois), update (DNS, owner and responsible information, renewal), and instant allocation processes. Previously carried out by Nic.TR, these processes will be under the management of BTK with the activation of TRABİS. However, since TRABİS does not directly serve end-users, you will need to carry out transactions related to .tr domain names through accredited registration operators. All domain names that have not been transferred to any registration operator during the Nic.TR closure process will be transferred to TRABİS.
With the transition to TRABİS, all domain name allocation processes will be carried out through registration operators. The procedures and rules regarding the allocation process have not yet been fully clarified, and all details will be provided to you after the announcement from BTK. With the activation of TRABİS, it will be possible to allocate domain names without submitting any documents, based on a first-come, first-served basis, especially for the most popular .com.tr, .net.tr, and .org.tr domain names among internet domain extensions, as well as gen.tr, biz.tr, tv.tr, web.tr, info.tr, bbs.tr, tel.tr, and name.tr domain names. gov.tr, edu.tr, bel.tr, k12.tr, av.tr, dr.tr, pol.tr, and tsk.tr domain names can be allocated without any changes in the procedure, provided that the necessary documents are submitted.
Sale
Domain name sale and leasing are prohibited in Nic.TR processes. However, with the activation of TRABİS, the sale and leasing of domain names are allowed. Within the scope of TRABİS, domain name sales procedures will start after 3 years following the activation of the process and will be possible through the services of registration operators. Announcements and explanations regarding sales and leasing processes will be shared with our users in detail.
Transfer
Domain name transfer was previously implemented as Owner Change in Nic.TR processes. However, this process, which will be carried out as Transfer with TRABİS, will be completed if any of the following documents are available:
Declaration of Absence Company Merger/Acquisition Documents Brand/Patent Transfer Documents Proof of Transfer of Rights Related to Ideas/Art Works
Document
Announcements and explanations regarding the transfer process will be shared with our users in detail separately.
.tr extension
The first-level domain extension, ".tr," is currently closed for allocation.
"example.tr"
However, after 1 year following the activation of TRABİS, the allocation of .tr extension will begin.
The ".tr" domain name system and its central database, which allow the management of internet domain names with the .tr extension, the creation of the directory, updating, real-time domain name application processes, and the provision of directory services, are carried out securely and continuously in this system.
